1. WE ARE LITURGICAL

Our worship is done through the historic liturgical style, which is rooted in Holy Scripture and is the original style of worship in the Christian Church, dating back as far as the first or second century.

2. OUR GOAL IS NOT ENTERTAINMENT

Our entertainment-saturated culture has led many to choose a church based upon entertainment values or 'wow' factor, we hope our church will be evaluated based upon values of discipleship.  A good question to ask when looking for a church is "Will this church be a place where I will be taught God's truth, where I can build Godly relationships, and where I will have opportunity to use my gifts for His glory?"

3. WE AFFIRM THE REAL PRESENCE 

While we believe Holy Communion certainly includes elements of remembrance of Jesus's sacrifice on the cross for us almost 2,000 years ago, we also believe that something mysterious happens at Holy Communion whereby Christ is made present in a tangible way through the consecrated elements of bread and wine. 

4. HOLY COMMUNION EVERY SUNDAY

Since we affirm the tangible gift of Christ's presence in Holy Communion, we can find no reason to neglect to receive this gift whenever we gather as a body on Sunday mornings.

5.WE ARE NOT FUNDAMENTALIST

...in our approach to interpreting of scripture.  At Saint Matthias, we firmly uphold the Authority of Scripture while recognizing sound scriptural interpretation requires a more nuanced and reasoned approach than the always-literal reading often taken in Fundamentalist Christianity.

6. WE ARE NOT LIBERAL, EITHER

Many mainline churches have begun to depart from the historic Christian faith by teaching that Jesus is only one of many ways to God and by doing same-sex blessings.  We resolutely reject these trends, affirming with John 14:6 that Jesus is the way, the truth, & the life and no one comes to God the Father except by Him.  Furthermore, while we seek to love all people in accordance with the spirit and teaching of Christ, we refuse to perform same-sex blessings and reserve the right to deny any couple the sacrament of marriage.  

7. WE ARE CREED-BASED

We hold to the teaching of the Historic Creeds - both the Apostles' and the Nicene - to ensure we are teaching the historic faith. 

8. WE ARE NON-PARTISAN

Our King is Jesus.  While the political realm is not insignificant, our King is Jesus.  Thus, at Saint Matthias you will be encouraged to place your Hope in Him over and above any political party or ideology.    

9. WE ARE NOT AT WAR WITH SCIENCE

Sadly, the narrative that believers must choose between the Bible and science has become dominant in evangelical Christianity.  This is a false choice that you will not be asked to make at Saint Matthias.  Although the personal beliefs of our parishioners likely vary on questions of cosmology and human origins, we hold strongly to the authority of Holy Scripture, and you will not hear anti-science rhetoric from this pulpit. 

10. WE ARE UNDER AUTHORITY

Unlike many non-denominational churches, our tradition provides a structure of accountability for our leadership, which serves under the authority of the Bishop, who himself is accountable to the ACNA college of Bishops.
